I have an experience of: I am a registered medical practitioner, completed my studies in 2010 at the University of Pretoria. I also completed my Diploma in Emergency Medicine in 2017 as well as my certificate in Travel Medicine in 2016. I completed my dispensing license as well and am up to date with my ATLS, ACLS and PALS in South Africa. I Work in one of the busiest, private hospital Emergency departments in South Africa seeing a multitude of trauma and medical emergencies. Unfortunately a lot of deaths as well. I also spend time in the Family and Travel Medicine practice affiliated with the ED with a special interest in Aesthetic Medicine. Phoebe Kingston is a mental health professional working in several roles in Western Australia (WA) including; peer support, professional speaking, several representative/advisory/advocacy roles, Board member for Recovery Rocks Community Inc’, member of an Open Dialogue Model for WA Working Party, Deputy Chair of the Community Advisory Council and Project Lead for Position Statements for the Community Advisory Council (CAC). Dr. Fein is a Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist / Neuroscientist who has focused his research efforts over the past 35 years on the clinical and cognitive neuroscience of addiction and other psychiatric and neurologic disorders, and on developing technology to support such work. He was Professor of Medical Psychology and Radiology at UCSF until 1999, at which time he formed Neurobehavioral Research, Inc. (NRI). Since moving NRI to Hawaii in 2005, he became Professor of Medicine and Psychology at the University of Hawaii. He is committed to understanding the brain networks and mechanisms underlying and affected by addiction and mental illness, and how they can be impacted and ameliorated via varying treatment modalities. He has been PI on major clinical studies of substance abusing and psychiatrically disturbed samples, including studies examining brain structure and function in early to very long-term abstinence from alcohol and drugs in adolescent, young adult, middle aged, and elderly samples. His presentation at this conference builds on cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of brain functional changes during abstinence – those studies suggest potential treatments to support attaining and maintaining abstinence, and also suggest that treatment should be tailored to the clinical history and clinical presentation of the patient.
